Evaluation

I enjoyed everything about this assignment. This time i actually finished ahead of the schedule. Normally i finish my assignment around 2 days before its due and stress the last night to finish all my written work. Im really happy that this term i finished two weeks ahead of the schedule because ive had a lot of time to do written work. This worked better because i had more time to work on my written part and i ended up doing more than i normallly do.

I enjoyed mayking the website more than the written work. One of my main issues was when i was looking for movie scenes and trailers for my website i got distracted and wasted a whole lesson just watching them. I was entertained though, thats for sure. Next time i have to remind myself not to get stuck wit the little things and pay more attention to the bigger picture, when im finished i can come back and watch the trailers.

The worst part about the website was trying to find what the writings said at the bottom of the posters. This meant that i had a lot more work to do trying to find it. However my poster turned out really well and i worked so hard on it that i had finished in two lessons. I had two weeks to do my poster and i finished in less than a week. I was really proud of that and im really happy with the outcome of my poster.

I really like the idea of making blogs and websites, so when this assignment is over im going to get a mobileme account and keep a website about me. I think its a lot of fun and the program is so easy to use. I really liked creative media this term and im glad i chose it as an elective. I have now finished all my work for the term, but ive learnt alot and im excited to keep learning. I actually enjoyed what we've done it class so much that i am currently saving to buy a macbook pro and i will be buying all the programs we have used in class. Then i can use them at home and make my own videos and websites whenever i please. :) :) :)

Exploring Finding Nemo Website

By first glance at the Finding Nemo website i can see the huge difference. I can see that it is a much better website and it looks very inviting.

The Promotional Material used to market this film.

When i looked through the Finding Nemo website, i looked for any promotional techniques they used. I noticed that when you click on the site the first thing you see is a menu page and a picture of the finding Nemo movie, there is also an advertisement for the DVD and its release date and it also gives you advertisements about other movies the same company has made. This is a direct promotional technique as it the first thing you see.

When you enter the site a trailer of the movie immediately pops up and it gives you information about the DVD and its bonus features. It tells you how to download videos and trailers and more information as well.

When you scroll down it gives the movie storyline and the plot summary. It also gives you all the details about the cast and crew and who played who in the movie. It also gives you additional details like who the director was, when the movie was released, who wrote it, which studio it was made by, and approximate running time of the movie. It also tells you the rating of the movie.

If you scroll down some more you'll see that it tells you about some of the awards the movie has gotten and wht some people thouhgt about it. The website also advertises the soundtrack and tells you how to buy it.

It also shows you alot of free pictures and links you to finding nemo games and music. Overall i think this an extremely good website.

Elements of Design

The elements of design they this website uses are, colour scheme, tone, shapes and space. The colours that the website uses are lots of light happy colours because it is a kids movie. Such as blue, light blue, yellow and white. This gives the website a very happy feel, and it suits the themes of the movie. The tone used on the side is good because everything looks 3-D and looks like it is sticking out and you could touch it. It makes the website look very realistic and believable. The shapes that this website uses are all natural. This is because the movie is about the ocean and about animals and the environnment so it had to be natural.

The way space was used in this website was good. This is because everything is set out in the same way so you understand how to move yourself around the website and see everything that is there.

The Principles of Design this website used are composition, balance, emphasis, repetition. Composition was well used because the site was laid out well. It was easy to understand and it was logical. It was balanced because it felt symmetrical and even. It has repitition because the same colours are used throughout the side and the same effects are used. The feel developed because of the elements and principles of design used are happy and light. It is peaceful and happy and it definetely reflects the themes shown in the movie.

Promotional Posters

There are no obvious promotional posters on the website. They may have been somewhere that i missed. However there were a lot of still images.

Site Layout

As this site is not only for Finding Nemo, but for every Disney Movie, every Movie has its own specific page. This means that its easy to see everything because you simply scroll down.

Target Audience

The target audience is obviously for young children because it is a G rated movie. The site relects this appropriately and shows that it is created for children.

Exploring the Anchorman Website

The promotional Material Used to Market this film:

When i looked through the The Anchorman website, i looked for any promotional techniques they used. I noticed that when you click on the site the first thing you see is an advertisement of the Anchorman DVD. This is a direct promotional technique as it the first thing you see. I also noticed that when you first click on enter site, It has the movies catch phrase and more advertising of the DVD.

On the website it has a page that gives you details about the movie and DVD. It says things like what special features the movie includes, how long it goes for, behind the scenes, interviews, auditions and more. There is also a page that is all about the trailer. It gives you options wether you would like to watch it in quicktime, real player or windows media. With each of these programs it gives you a choice of two different trailers and all in different sized files (small, normal, large).

The website also links to a games page, however none of the game advertise or have anything to do with Anchorman. It has a link to Dreamwork's website which then goes into detail about their EEO statement and job opportunities. This doesn't really have to be placed on the Anchorman website in my opinion. It also has link to pictures on another website, however this website shows all pictures and not just Anchorman pictures. It is not very successfull and i do not think this website is nearly as good as the Harry Potter Website.

I think the reason for this is because it was amateurely made and has no copyright over any material. It does not have the right to advertise and therefore is not very good.

Here is the link to the website:

http://www.anchorman-themovie.com/dvd_features_anchorman.htm

List of promotional features

  • Games (but did not promote movie)
  • Actors
  • Trailers
  • Dates of when the movie comes out, when the cd comes out, whent he DVD comes out
As you can see this website was not made very well and is not promoting the movie to a very large extent.

Elements of Design

The elements of design they this website uses are, colour scheme, tone, shapes and space. The colours that the website uses are light and bright. Such as blue, purple. red, orange and yellow. This gives the website a very light hearted feel, and it suits the themes of the movie. The tone wasnt used much and it wasnt very exciting to look at. It makes the website look very boring and plain. The shapes that this website uses are all geometric, and man made. This is because the movie is humourous and realistic. The way space was used in this website was good. This is because there is a lot of blank space, which is easier to focus on the important aspects of the website. This is because when there is too much to look out the audience gets confused.

The Principles of Design this website used are composition, balance, emphasis, repetition.
There was a good use of composition as the site was logical and easy t understand. Balance was also in tact because it was symmetrical and even. Not lop sided. It has repitition because the same colours are used throughout the side and the same effects are used.

The feel developed because of the elements and principles of design used aer light and humourous. It has a happy feel about it and it definetely reflects the themes shown in the movie.

Althought the site is well set out i do not believe it is a good website because it has almost nothing about the move on it and there is not much to do on there. It is boring and the audience will tire easily.

Promotional Posters

There are no promotional posters on this website. There is only a picture of him used as the backroud of the website and that is it. This is not very good advertiseing.

Site Layout

The site is laid out well. The menu system follows Western society. All of the tabs are at the top of the page and or at the left hand side at the top. This makes it easy for the audience to look for the tabs because this is generally where people read from.

Target Audience

This movie does not specify who its target audience is. The movie is PG 13 however they have released copies that are not suitable for children as there are uncut scenes which are included. The website however seems to fit all ages and is suitable for anyone.

Exploring Harry Potter Website

The Promotional Material used to market this film.

When i looked through the The Harry Potter website, i looked for any promotional techniques they used. I noticed that when you click on the site the first thing you see is a trailer of the Harry Potter movie. This is a direct promotional technique as it the first thing you see. I also noticed that when you first click on enter site, it has when the movie will come to cinemas at the bottom, and when it will be coming to DVD.

There was a page on the site that linked to videos and sections in the Harry Potter movie. I will make sure to do this on my website because it is a really good way to promote the film/movie. The website also had a synopsis which told the audience about the website, a cast list and about each of the characters and about the actors that played those characters. It tells you about the directers and the people that made the movie, and helped to make it.

The website has another page that has a gallery of pictures. It also has a page of things that it allows you to download. These are things such as posters, wallpapers, buddyicons and screen savers. Another page has the movie soundtrack and an advertisement about the CD, where to buy it, how much it costs and when it comes out. It also had a link to the website that sells all the official harry potter merchandise. It also has the link to page that takes you to the site that lets you download harry potter ringtones, and a link to harry potter on itunes. It has another link to a page that sells harry potter games, and applications.

It has another link to a page that has harry potter games, wishlists, daily prophets and links back to the homepage.

List of promotional features

  • Games
  • Wishlists
  • Daily Phropets
  • Credits
  • Cast
  • Character Profiles
  • Actors
  • Trailers
  • Movie scenes
  • Wallpapers
  • Screensavers
  • Still images
  • Dates of when the movie comes out, when the cd comes out, whent he DVD comes out
  • Synopsis
  • Cast list
  • Posters
  • Buddyicons
  • link to merchandise
  • link to ringtones
  • link to itunes
Elements of Design

The elements of design they this website uses are, colour scheme, tone, shapes and space. The colours that the website uses are dark. Such as black, dark blue and grey. This gives the website a very dark feel, and it suits the themes of the movie. The tone used on the side is good because everything looks 3-D and looks like it is sticking out and you could touch it. It makes the website look very realistic and believable. The shapes that this website uses are all geometric, and man made. This is because the movie is sharp, and sci-fi. The way space was used in this website was good. This is because there is a lot of blank space, which is easier to focus on the important aspects of the website. This is because when there is too much to look out the audience gets confused.

The Principles of Design this website used are composition, balance, emphasis, repetition. Composition was well used because the site was laid out well. It was easy to understand and it was logical. It was balanced because one side of the site wasnt heavier than the other and it felt symmetrical and even. It has repitition because the same colours are used throughout the side and the same effects are used.

The feel developed because of the elements and principles of design used is dark and evil. It seems almost eery and has a strange feel about it. It definetely reflects the themes shown in the movie.

Promotional Posters

There are about 5 different promotional posters used. They all have the same background and are set out the same way. The only difference between them is that they have different chracters in the foreground.

Site Layout

The site is laid out well. The menu system follows Western society. It pops out at the left hand side of the page and that is how western society reads. They start at the left and at the top and move on to the right and then go down. This is how the site is set out and is very effective.

Target Audience

The target audience is anyone from pre-teens to adults of any age. Harry Potter is enjoyed by all ages and something that everyone enjoys to watch. The website successfully entertains both genders and all ages. It stays neutral so that it does not appeal to a specific audience.

Research for Posters

This lesson i researched what other posters looked like before i made my own for the movie The Notebook. The movie's posters that i looked at were The Notebook, Harry Potter, Anchor Man.

In each of these posters you can see they have several things in common, such as:

  • A picture from the Movie
  • The Main cast
  • A quote from the movie at the top
  • The producer
  • The director
  • Year it was made
  • Release Date
  • The name of the movie
  • The website
You can notice that the background, font, text, colour, and general feel of the poster matches the theme of the movie. For example the Harry Potter poster is dark and has a scarier font. I will make sure to follow this on my poster.

How to use iweb

This lesson Mr Powell taught us how to use iweb. I think the program is amazing, and i really enjoy using it. We all made practice websites using it. I learnt how to:

  • Save a page
  • Publish a page
  • Insert or delete pages
  • Rename and name pages
  • Insert titles
  • Change fonts
  • Link to websites
  • Insert pictures
  • Insert Movies
  • Design a webpage
  • Insert a text box

I think that this term will definetely be a fun one, and im really enjoying learning how to use iweb.

What we are doing this term.

This term in creative media we are making our own websites. We had the option of either using the video we made in term 3 or using a film of our choice and designing a web site for it. I was over my movie from last term so i decided to use a film that had already been created. My favourite types of movies are romantic comedy's so the movies i had thought of doing were:

  • The Proposal

  • The Ugly Truth

  • PS I love you

  • The notebook

In the end i decided on doing The Notebook for no reason in particular. I just found myself looking for The Notebook images and decided to continue.
